Unfortunately due to the poor weather forecast and wet ground of the field, we have had to postpone today's junior sports day. Our reserve day is Friday at 1:30pm, we'll keep our fingers crossed for some sunshine!!

Deighton Dealers visit from Morrisons

The Deighton Dealers had a very exciting weekly meeting tonight with a visit from Morrisons. They spoke to us about:

• What products we should be selling
• Advertising
• Promotions
• How best to manage our stock
• Seasonal stock

We were all also very lucky to receive a goody bag each and they are also supporting us with our tuck shop by providing us with some stock to sell.

A big, big thank you to Leah and Sam from Morrisons who taught us a lot today and helped us to take the next step with our tuck shop.

FRIENDS OF DEIGHTON NEWS

We held our AGM yesterday 4^th February, Thank you to all those who attended. We have now elected our committee for the coming year.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped us this year, whether it’s been helping at our events, attending or allowing your children to attend events or making or donating items. With your help we have raised a fantastic £4600.

This money has helped support the school. We have purchased an adventure trail for the foundation phase which will be installed this month, funded the year 6 leavers party, Christmas gifts for all children, part funded bus trips for the whole school and purchased sports equipment.

Next meeting will be held on Tuesday  4th March at  3.15pm. 

We are holding our meetings on the 1^st Tuesday of every month, unless it falls in the holidays. Hopefully this then gives people plenty of notice to attend.

Christmas jumpers raise £71 for Text Santa!!

Today the whole of Deighton Primary School got into the festive spirit for our Christmas dinner and swapped our school uniform for Christmas jumpers and clothing! The day was in aid of Text Santa and raised a fantastic £71 for the charity!!
A big thank you to the children of year 6 for suggesting the fund raising idea!

Beautiful Christmas singing has crowd in tears!!

Today was the day for Tredegar Town's Christmas market and among the hustle and bustle of the stalls, the beautiful voices of Deighton Primary School Choir could be heard echoing through the town centre. The children, ranging from Year 2 to Year 6, along with choir leader Mrs. Middle had worked incredibly hard learning the words to all of the songs and their hard work certainly paid off. Every child knew the words to every song and sounded amazing!
A member of the audience even told one of the parents that the beautiful singing had brought her to tears!!
Da iawn to Deighton Choir and a massive diolch to Mrs Middle for leading the choir and giving up her time on a Saturday morning.

Due to the weather we're re-scheduling the Junior Sports Day to Tuesday the 16th of July at 1.30pm.

The sports day for KS1 is going ahead as planned today (9.30 a.m. nursery and reception) and 1.30 p.m. for Yr 1 & 2.

The weather forecast is not great for tomorrow's  KS 2 Sports Day at 1.30 p.m. 

We will decide on what to do and post the latest news on the web site in the morning. 

Our reserve day is Thursday 4^th July.

Class 2 Visits Bedwellty House.

On Tuesday 12^th March, Class 2 went to Bedwellty House, Tredegar and learned all about Victorians. They made their own ice cream, had afternoon tea, dressed up as poor and rich children, played with Victorian toys and games and washed clothes.

They had great fun and were exceptionally well behaved. The children agreed that it was a fabulous day and that they learned a lot about life in Tredegar in Victorian times.

We've added some new features such as a new blog for the nursery and foundation phase as well as a blog for keystage 2.

We'll use these blogs to bring you updates and reports on happenings in school, they will include pictures and maybe even some video.

We've also added a Twitter account and the Twitter account gets information from our main school news blog. So if you would like to kept abreast of any school news please follow us on Twitter (@deightonprimary).

Did you know that our school calendar is available to share? If you have a Google account (If not they are free!) add a Google calendar to your profile. When you click on the Google Calendar button on the bottom of our Calendar page it will add the school's calendar to your Google calendar. You can then push this information to your smart phone. We'll be posting some detailed instructions shortly.
